- Can I get a load in the same area where I deliver? (Horizon calls this a re-load)
Professional driveraway contractors face an inherent deadhead leg between trips
because origin and destination points are many and varied. The best companies are the
ones who find the most loads nationwide and provide the best customer service. At this
time we do not measure deadhead miles, however we do have many re-load
opportunities. We have established long term relationships with many accounts
nationwide providing loads everyday of the year. Mileage pay will vary from one
re-load customer to another. The pay variances are base rates we generate from
our shippers. Horizon has a long standing track record of paying the driver as high a
percentage as we can, based on the rates we generate. Horizon operates a national
reload dispatch board for driveaway contractors, reducing their overall deadhead.
- Your contractor 1099
You will receive your 1099 IRS form by January 31st for the previous year's revenue.
It is advisable for you to personally seek a qualified tax accountant for tax benefit
structure in regards to your driving expenses. Horizon can refer contractors to a
local firm, familiar with our contractors' needs.
- Reimbursements
Most tolls, permits, vehicle fluids, and additional approved miscellaneous purchases
will be reimbursed. You must pay for these items and submit receipts with your trip
paperwork.
- Fuel Surcharge
We automatically implement a fuel surcharge, payable to the driver, when the national
average increases to specific levels
